Wiz Khalifa and NBA on TNT Roadshow Open The NBA All Star Weekend at The Complex
February 24, 2023
After 30 years the NBA All Star Game returned to Salt Lake City. A lot has changed since the last time the game was hosted here including the size of the festivities surrounding the game itself. Although there were some mentions about the nightlife in Salt Lake City not being up to par and there being nothing to do, everywhere you looked seemed to be buzzing with excitement and events.
The NBA on TNT Roadshow kicked off the weekend on Thursday night with a live broadcast from The Complex in downtown Salt Lake City. Fans lined the streets waiting for the 4:30 PM doors open time to be let inside and watch the broadcast and see what else there was to offer. The broadcast team of Charles Barkley, Shaquille O' Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson gave live pregame, half time and post coverage throughout the night for the double header games that were being televised. In between the live broadcast fans were treated to competitions, shoot arounds and spelling bees for the chance to win NBA All Star gear. Fans were also treated to a live DJ getting the venue worked up for the night's concert which would see Grammy Nominated artists Chloe Bailey and Wiz Khalifa open the entertainment for the weekend.
After the games and broadcast were over Chloe Bailey took the stage to a perform for packed house, opening with her hit song "Have Mercy." Backed by a bevy of dancers Bailey got the crowd hyped up and ready to go. It was great to see Bailey blazing across the stage and hyping the fans up ahead of her upcoming album and her single "How Does it Feel" featuring Chris Brown that just dropped today.
Once it came time for Wiz Khalifa to take the stage the crowd was roaring and ready to go. As soon as the opening notes of "We Dem Boyz" hit the speakers the energy went through the roof and stayed there the whole night. Wiz played a lot of fans favorite hits throughout the set with the most touching of the night being "See You Again." Fans sang along to "Black and Yellow" along with all the other songs while Wiz showed why he's one of the best to take the stage.
I cant think of a better way to have opened the events in Salt Lake City. Here's to hoping it's not another 30 years before Salt Lake sees another event like this.
