Late November in Utah brings with it colder air, longer nights and the holiday season starts creeping into every corner. Decorations start to go up, playlists start sneaking in holiday music and like clockwork, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra brings the official kickoff to the Christmas season to Salt Lake City as they take over the Delta Center.
This year TSO returned last Wednesday, November 19th, with “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve: The Best of TSO and More!” Their holiday spectacle which blends their signature style of prog rock/metal, storytelling and holiday magic. Whether you’re a die-hard returning fan or a first timer once you entered the venue you could feel the excitement buzzing. Honestly, I’m always a little jealous of the first timers. Theres nothing like your first TSO show, it’s a mind-blowing experience full of emotions and wonder. When you go from seeing regular concerts to seeing a TSO show it’s the equivalent of stepping through a magic wardrobe.
A Christmas Spectacular Built on Legacy
Since 1996 Trans-Siberian Orchestra has been enchanting audiences with a vision crafted by the late Paul ‘O Neill, the mastermind who fused prog rock and holiday together to achieve his dream of holiday rock operas. His spirit and vision still anchor the show, carried now by musical director and guitarist Al Pitrelli, who leads the West Coast chapter of the TSO.
Seeing Pitrelli on stage talking to the fans feels like meeting up with an old friend, one who just happens to run one of the most impressive productions today. Pitrelli introduces the night’s performers in a way that welcomes you to his family and introduces you to his friends making a personal connection. Then he turns around and puts on a guitar performance to rival any guitarist out there.
Voices that Captivate
Part of TSO’s power comes from the storytellers who guide us through the journey. Phillip Brandon’s voice carries the narration of the story while being rich and commanding, shaping the emotional arc. His voice wraps everyone like a warm blanket as they settle in for the show.
And then there’s Chloe Lowery, whose vocals remain one of the highlights of TSO. When she steps into the spotlight of the arena, the energy shifts as her voice elevates the show carrying with it electricity through the air. She’s a fan favorite for a reason and every year she earns an ovation that fills the venue.

A Light Show Like no Other
Let’s take a minute to talk about the production. TSO doesn’t just flirt with production, they embrace it. Pyro? Check. Lasers? Enough to light a town. Led Visuals? Somewhere between a rock opera and a fantasy film.
Every year they push the limits of what a holiday rock show can look like. Towers of light, moving platforms and walls of flame all compete for your attention with the world-class musicians performing on stage. This is a show where your senses get a workout.
A Utah Tradition Keeps Growing
As the final notes faded and the house lights lit up the crowd streamed out into the cold Salt Lake City night. Returning fans swapped stories with first timers who wore smiles from ear to ear after having witnessed their first taste of TSO’s holiday magic. TSO may have just finished performing but you could already hear people making plans to attend next year.
In Utah, the holiday season doesn’t officially begin until the Trans-Siberian Orchestra lights the way.
