Train and REO Speedwagon take a Summer Road trip to Utah
Heading into fall in late August, or September is the perfect time for outdoor events in Utah. The weather starts cooling off, leaves change, and outdoor music concerts are aplenty. This past Thursday night Train and REO Speedwagon decided to take advantage of this and brought their Summer Road Trip Tour to the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre for what turned out to be the perfect night of music.

Opening the evening was special guests Yacht Rock Revue who got the crowd going and in the mood for some classic rock hits. Their setlist was a great mix that was the perfect segway into REO Speedwagon’s act who would take the stage next.

After a brief set change REO Speedwagon took the stage and wasted no time keeping the party going. The opening number was “Don’t Let Him Go,” followed up by fan favorite “Take It on the Run.” The setlist featured hit after hit which front man Kevin Cronin delivers perfectly. At 72 years of age, Cronin still moves around the stage with his energy levels keeping up with artists half his age. That signature voice and stage presence that made them a household name continues to draw in audiences with the younger generation attending their shows having grown up listening to their hits with their parents. In fact, this is something that Cronin would quip about later letting the fans know that Train had them come on tour so that REO could help them reach a younger audience. After an entertaining set that featured timeless hits, they closed out the show with “Keep On Loving You,” and “Roll With the Changes.”

Next up was Train, who right out of the gate started the show with one of their biggest hits going right into “Calling All Angels.” From that moment forward the fans in the venue were either singing, dancing, or clapping along over the course of the band’s 16 song set. REO vocalist Kevin Cronin joined Train on stage for “Meet Virgina” with some “The Joker” from the Steve Miller Band mixed in. Another highlight of the show that fans loved was when Train invited Yacht Rock Revue back out to the stage and the bands performed “Hotel California” together while the audience sang along. After the performance of that song Train closed out what was a perfect night with their biggest hit “Drops of Jupiter.”

Overall, Train put together a night that won’t soon be forgotten by those who attended and reminded us of what a perfect summer night should be. Incredible music and like-minded people sharing the experience with one of our favorite bands.
