Story of the Year and Senses Fail Live at The Complex - Scream Team Tour Concert Review

December 12, 2025

Story of the Year and Senses Fail brought their co-headlining Scream Team Tour to The Complex in Salt Lake City, Utah, this past weekend on December 7th.  Eager fans filled the venue looking for a night of hard-hitting nostalgia, emo, and post hardcore delivered by the headliners and special guests Armor for Sleep.

Armor for Sleep Sets the Tone

Opening the night, Armor for Sleep wasted no time in setting the emotional tone for the show.  Their heavy sound connected with the audience while the emo lyrics took everyone right back to the “phase” of the early 2000’s.  Longtime fans sang their hearts out right next to people who were discovering the band for their first time, marking the perfect segue for an emotionally charged evening.

Senses Fail Brings the Chaos

Up next, Senses Fail took the stage with a set that leaned into their intensity right from the opening notes.  The momentum that began with Armor for Sleep grew to a fever pitch as fans shouted lyrics and surfers started coming toward the barricade carried by the crowd and The Complex floor became a sea of movement as circle pits started popping up.  Senses Fail commanded the room as their mix of melodic hooks and aggressive riffs powered the performance, reminding everyone why their music is a staple of the scene.

Story of the Year Delivers a Set to Remember

When Story of the Year took the stage the energy inside The Complex reached its peak and punched through it.  Known for explosive live shows, Story of the Year lived up to their reputation with a performance equal parts nostalgia and emo anthems.  From the first song the crowd responded instantly with raised voices and emotions matching the bands and cascading the venue with a shared air of emotions.

Story of the Year’s set was packed with so many anthems that helped shape the lives of everyone in the venue, which gave it a cathartic feeling.  Revisiting all the feelings that we felt when we first heard these songs and reconnecting with the band gave the show a deeper meaning.  The band’s chemistry with each other and connection with the fans turned the evening into a shared experience that rose above just another show.

The Scream Team Tour stop in Salt Lake City proved that tours like this still matter.  The music and the bands resonated with the crowd with all three bands delivering memorable performances, the show felt almost curated just for the Salt Lake City fans.  From start to finish it was a celebration of the music, the scene and a reminder that it was never just a phase.
