The Complex in Salt Lake City played host to Sevendust and Theory of a Deadman on The Dead/Seven Tour to the Rockwell, with Return to Dust on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Return to Dust wasted little time getting the early arrivals ready for the night. Their set was full of energy from the start, and that energy quickly washed across the crowd as more fans made their way into the venue. Tasked with opening a night featuring two veteran rock bands, Return to Dust was up to the challenge. By the end of their set the crowd was pumped and ready to go.

Up next was Theory of a Deadman, making another return to The Complex.

This time around, however, the setting made a noticeable difference. Their previous appearance at the venue saw them performing on the smaller Grand side, while this show moved them into the larger Rockwell room. The bigger stage gave Theory more space to work with, and they took full advantage.

With a larger stage production, lights filling the room and the band constantly moving from one side of the stage to the other, the performance felt bigger from the moment they stepped out. The Rockwell stage allowed them to fully interact with the stage. Vocalist Tyler Connolly took advantage of this by walking around and engaging with the fans on each side and at one point using a Polaroid to snap pictures around the stage and throw them out to the audience as souvenirs. They closed their set out with their smash hits “RX (Medicate)” and “Bad Girlfriend."

By this point, the crowd was fully warmed up and the energy was about to get turned up another notch.

Sevendust turned it up.

When the Atlanta rock veterans took the stage, the energy inside The Complex immediately jumped. The heavier sound hit the room hard and seemed to give the crowd a second wind after already spending the night on its feet.

Hands shot into the air as fans punched along with the music, while lyrics were shouted right back at the band from across the Rockwell.

Sevendust leaned into their hard hitting sound encouraging the fans to get even more pumped and for pits to open up. With every song the intensity inside The Complex got heavier, fans were screaming lyrics as others punched the air and others ran in the circle pit.

By the time “Face to Face” brought the night to its conclusion, the crowd had given nearly as much energy back to the stage as the band had thrown at them.

Three bands brought three different levels of intensity to the Rockwell. Return to Dust started the fire, Theory of a Deadman expanded the show with a bigger stage and production, and Sevendust closed the night by simply hitting as hard as they could.

For Salt Lake City rock fans, The Dead/Seven Tour delivered exactly wh
