Sam Hunt Brings the Locked Up tour to the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre
August 10, 2024
Last Week, country music star Sam Hunt’s Locked Up tour rolled through Utah, making a stop at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre. What was supposed to be another summer night concert quickly turned into an evening filled with unexpected twists and memorable moments.
The evening started off with Mother Nature taking center stage as thunderstorms rolled into the area. Lightning strikes close to the venue led to an unexpected evacuation with attendees being asked to shelter in their cars until the storm passed. The evacuation and people leaving the venue led some to wonder if the show was canceled but the venue communicated through e mail and social networks it was just a delay and the show would go on once the weather had passed.
At 6:45 the venue sent out a communication saying the gates were reopening which was relayed to fans quickly. The good news spread quickly which presented another twist to the evening as fans who were just arriving and fans who evacuated both lined up to get in which resulted in a bottleneck at the venue gates and a giant line forming. Credit is due to the venue staff who handled this situation as best as they could and did their best to run things smoothly. Although it was the longest line, I’ve ever seen at the venue the staff moved the fans along and into the venue quickly.
Finally, after all the unexpected twists and turns that the evening provided, the time arrived for Sam Hunt to take the stage and for the next 90 minutes, we were all treated to an incredible performance. The stage lights combined with the rain that was still falling created another layer to the show with the rain drops illuminating the lights as they fell through the sky. Hunt’s setlist was packed with hit after hit and the crowd sang along to fan favorites like “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s,” “Body Like a Back Road,” and “Take Your Time” while dancing along in the rain. The weather turned the concert into something more than just another concert, it became a shared experience, and the rain helped cool the evening off, so we weren’t feeling the heat of the recent heatwave.
Mother Nature might have thrown some curveballs, but the venue staff and Sam Hunts touring crew did their best throughout the evening delivering a night that won’t soon be forgotten.
Sam Hunt will continue the Locked Up tour now through October. Tickets and info can be found here.
