Last night, I had the chance to attend the Peach Pit and Briston Maroney concert at the House of Blues in Houston. It was a fantastic show, and the venue was filled with positive energy all night. The supporting act, Bnny, helped everyone leave their worries at the door with the relaxed vibe of their music and the witty comments they made between songs. They performed for thirty minutes before welcoming Briston Maroney to the stage.
Briston Maroney’s show was one I’ll never forget. From nature-inspired set to the energy he brought to the venue, he spent an hour fully engaging the audience, helping them lose themselves in his music. His stage presence was captivating, and he used his platform to highlight issues important to him, displaying messages on one of his guitars and on the drum set. During his song “Tomato,” he sent the crowd closest to the stage into a frenzy- leaping off the stage and continuing the performance on the floor, surrounded by fans. I’m sure those nearest to him will remember that moment forever. It was a fantastic show, and I felt extremely lucky to have the opportunity to photograph it.
Next in the lineup was Peach Pit. Frontman Neil Smith kept the audience engaged with his funny stories and comments. The lighting for their set was beautiful, and the setlist was fantastic. Guitarist Christopher Vanderkooy repeatedly showed how agile he is- even with his guitar- through his onstage moves. At one point, Neil shared the story of how he and Chris formed the band. While his delivery was humorous, the story was also incredibly encouraging for anyone in the audience who wants to start a band but doesn’t know where to begin. Overall, it was an excellent show, and like with Briston Maroney, I’m extremely glad I had the opportunity to photograph it.
I would highly recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. For the remainder of their tour, they’ll be visiting Georgia, North Carolina, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Iowa, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania- as well as multiple locations in Canada and one in Mexico.
