When the opening notes of TikTok hit the speakers at The Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre last Saturday thousands of animals let out a collective cheer that echoed across the Salt Lake valley. Longtime fans and newer fans all stood and cheered alongside families that were introducing their children to one of pop musics most resilient stars.
Kesha’s Freedom Tour rolled into Utah bringing with it a celebration. It was a celebration of her career and her new chapter in it while also serving as a reminder of why she has remained such a beloved figure in pop music.
As Kesha took the stage fans immediately rose to their feet screaming and cheering as the energy in the venue went up another notch. From the opening notes of “TikTok” it was clear that this was more than just another show for the “animals” gathered in the venue. It seemed more like a victory lap for an artist who’s been through the ringer and came out the other side stronger than ever.
Throughout the show it was clear what a connection Kesha fans have with her. As she celebrated being an independent artist and finding her love of music again the fans cheered her on with many fans screaming their love and tears falling down their cheeks.
Between songs Kesha took the time to talk to her fans about her journey through music and some of the friendships she formed along the way. She recounted meeting the Flaming Lips and becoming friends with them and her friendship with Macklemore, who dented her car and said he would fix it but never did.
The true highlight was the music though. Fans sang along to the classics while also cheering and singing her new music such as “Origami” and giving her thunderous applause when she talked about releasing “.” (Period) her latest album via her own label, Kesha Records and marking this the first in her journey as an independent artist. Although her journey has not been easy Kesha looked fully energized and rejuvenated standing before thousands of cheering fans.
As the music faded and the crowd filtered out, one thing was clear. Kesha’s journey is far from over and if The Freedom Tour is anything to go by, her best chapter may still be ahead.
