Crown The Empire 10 Year Fallout Anniversary Tour at The Complex

June 15, 2022

The Complex in downtown Salt Lake City was the center of attention for metalheads Saturday night as 4 bands hit the stage. Crown The Empire came through on the 10 Year Fallout Anniversary Tour along with special guests Until I Wake, The Word Alive and D.R.U.G.S. (Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows).

First up on the night was the rising Metal Core act Until I Wake. This band has been lighting things up recently and a lot of people at the venue were excited to see them live.  The band has only been around for a few years but recently signed with Fearless Records, so they are poised for big things to come their way.

Phoenix based metal act The World Alive was next on stage and they gave the audience all we could handle and then some.  This band stole the show as far as the openers. Vocalist Tyler Smith gives an amazing performance and gets the crowd going with his singing and engaging them through the night. His performances for Monomania and Why Am I Like This were flawless.  This band has got it down even with the changes the lineup has continuously gone through. They put on an amazing performance every time they hit the stage and it was a treat to see them on this tour.

Next up was the post hardcore supergroup D.R.U.G.S. this band has seen some big names through its different lineup with Craig Owens being the sole founding member. This current lineup is gold though. Owens is a commanding front man and keeps the audience enthralled by his performance. Rounding out the current lineup is former All That Remains bassist Aaron Patrick, former Bring Me The Horizon Guitarist, Jona Weinhofen, and drummer Aaron Stechauner. The performance was killer, and the band has got it down. I am excited to see where this current lineup of the band goes.

Next up was Crown The Empire hitting the stage to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their album The Fallout. The night consisted of playing the entire album with some other songs thrown in here and there. Front man “Andy Leo” has a voice that is just made for the genre.  He can transition easily from the more melodic sounds into the harsh vocals that the band is known for.  The harsh vocals of bassist Hayden Tree also compliment Andy’s perfectly making their sound one of the best in the Metalcore genre. Their set was engaging and had the fans screaming along.  The only thing that could have made the night even better would have been if Courtney LaPlante would have been there to join them when they performed In Another Life. The encore performance of the night was brilliant. It started with Oh Catastrophe and then Johnny’s Revenge. It perfectly illustrated the range of the band going from one that involves a slower melody in Oh Catastrophe into the full on riot that is Johnny’s Revenge.

It was a great night celebrating the album that started it all for Crown The Empire and it was fun to have some newer songs thrown in there also to see how far the band has come.  I can’t wait to see what another 10 years looks like for Crown The Empire.  I only hope they come back through Salt Lake City for the next anniversary tour.
