Badflower Turns a Rock Show into a Raw Moment of Honesty.
March 5, 2026

What started as a typical night of live music in Salt Lake City turned into something very different. Perhaps something necessary.
Los Angeles based rock band, Badflower, stopped at The Complex last week on Friday, February 27th with special guests Olive Vox and Point North. Fans filled the venue expecting a high energy rock show. What we got was something far more personal. The night began the way most rock shows do, with fans lining up, then slowly filling the venue as anticipation builds. Olive Vox kicked things off, doing a solid job of getting the crowd going followed by Point North, who raised the intensity and got the crowd fully engaged and ready to rock away the rest of the night.
When Badflower finally took the stage, the energy in the room spiked through the roof. Fans cheered, started singing and dancing and were ready to go full force. Except something different was about to happen. This stop marked the halfway point through the tour, and those following the band closely know it’s been a difficult run for front man Josh Katz.
Throughout the tour, Katz has been open with fans about the strain his voice is going through with cracking and breaking during singing. He’s openly talked about the mental stress that it’s putting on him. This night though Katz hit a breaking point. After 7 songs into the set he stopped the show to sit and talk with the crowd in a brutally honest moment full of emotions. He told the crowd how deeply his identity is tied to being a singer and if he can’t perform it leaves him feeling not himself and thinking “what even am I?”
The crowd began cheering at this point, but Katz quickly stopped them saying “This isn’t the time for cheering.” He reminded fans that he was the person who wrote the haunting song “Ghost” which openly deals with suicide and let the crowd know he was right back in that headspace again. The room went quiet when fans heard this and they started yelling support from throughout the venue.
Next came the moment that shocked everyone.
Katz Announced to the band and the fans that he couldn’t sing anymore, he just couldn’t and he needed to end the tour, and the nights show would be cut short. This time, the reaction was mixed as most fans shouted support while a minority started booing at the announcement. He was visibly upset as he told the crowd they would play one more song and then they had to “bounce.”
Badflower went on to perform “Ghost” the song that covered the emotions and headspace Katz was describing as fans openly wept and shouted their support to him. After the song the lights came on, and the band left the stage and fans started leaving the venue as some huddled in groups talking while others were crying and confused.
Since the Salt Lake City show Katz has updated fans that the tour will continue rather than being canceled. For fans who were at the Salt Lake City show, however, the night will be remembered for more than just the music. It was a reminder that behind every performance is a human being, and sometimes the most powerful moment isn’t a song but the honesty that takes place in the moments between songs.
