311 and Dirty Heads at The Utah First Credit Union Amphitheater

Last Sunday, August 8th, 311 and Dirty Heads brought the party of the summer to the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre on the So Glad You Made It Tour.  In a night that blended rock, reggae and hip hop, it transformed the venue into a feel-good party destination. 

 

The Utah heat hung over the Amphitheatre for most of the evening, refusing to cool down until the tail end of the night.  Despite the heat fans turned out early to see ROME open the evening and they were ready for a good time. 

 

Up Next Ocean Alley kept the vibes going with the fans there for it having made the trip ready to make a night of it. 

 

By the time Dirty Heads took the stage, the party atmosphere that had been building was in full swing.  In a set that showcased why Dirty Heads is one of the best live acts out there, the crowd came to life, dancing, singing and laughing all the while letting the sounds of the rock, reggae and hip hop fusion wash over them.  There aren’t many bands who are better suited for entertaining thousands of fans in the Utah heat, and Dirty Heads perfectly kept the energy going.  Turning the energy high, then lowering it with a laid-back song before hitting another peak and keeping the fans engaged the whole set through. 

 

By the end of their set you could have been mistaken for thinking the show was over with the performance that everyone had just witnessed.  Then you remembered 311 was still coming up next and the already energized fans started brimming with excitement. 

 

As 311 took the stage the sun had set, and the heat finally started giving way to the evenings cooler air giving fans a respite and a boost of energy for round two.  From the opening moments 311 was there for the party, opening with “Beautiful Disaster” and then going right into “All Mixed Up.”  They didn’t build the energy slowly, they took that high left over from Dirty Heads and turned it up another notch.   

 

As the band kept the high going, fans sang along to deep cuts and fan favorites from 311’s decades long career, giving longtime fans and newer ones both something to sing along with. 

 

By the time the band closed out the evening with “Down” the night had become just what the promise of these two bands paired together had intended.  It wasn’t just a rock show or another concert.  Instead it was thousands of people, singing together, dancing together, and letting loose together all the while having a good time letting go with two bands who have become synonymous with that kind of party atmosphere.
